We leave the city and drive towards the Medeo rink. We are driving a prepared car with an experienced driver on 4WD. We turn left before parking Medeo to Komissarovskoe gorge. We drive a few more kilometers and stop in front of the barrier. Here we unload ski-tour equipment and get ready to go on the trail. If necessary, we can conduct a small educational program for beginners and talk about freeride, terrain, avalanche danger.

You can wear ski-tour equipment immediately, but if you don’t have it, then you can go on foot along the trodden path. This route is quite popular, so the path is almost always present. We pass 800-900 meters and see that the path has two roads. You can go for any, if our goal Furmanovka (glade Enthusiasts). But if we need a house of Lenin (descent from the “avalanche”), then turn right. Which skiing/snowboarding route you choose is up to you. You can choose two options at once.

The first version of the descent: Furmanovka.

As written above, when the path splits, you can go for any, if the goal Furmanovka. On weekends there are usually a lot of people, so we turn to the right. We go along the winding path among the coniferous firs to the plateau and turn left to climb a steep ridge. On average, from the beginning of the route to the ridge, we walk 2 hours. On the ridge among the trees, we stop for a halt to rest and have a snack. We make beautiful photos and move on.

We go to the foot of the Furmanov mountain (2700 meters), passing the famous swing. On average, it takes 2 hours. At the end point we have lunch, arrange photo shoots and enjoy nature. Next we ski and snowboard near the trail (maximum slope of 35-40%), sometimes driving through the virgin fields among the trees. The route is well suited for the average level of skiing.

We reach the asphalt and walk 15 minutes to the cars or if snow permits, we drive on the left side near the tank to the cars.

The second version of the descent: Lenin’s house (descent from the “avalanche”).

When the path forks, we turn just to the right! Then we go among the coniferous firs along the winding road to a flat place and turn right. From the beginning of the trail to this place to go 1.5-2 hours. We stop and take a short break and snack. You can arrange a photo shoot.

Then we pass the river and go out on the trail. We go near the ski lift (ski lift does not work) to the house of Lenin. You can go on ski-tour or on foot, most often there is a trail. On average, to the house of Lenin to go 2 hours. Lenin’s house has wooden benches where we will rest. Tightly snack, take pictures, relax. If newcomers in freeride come along with us, then we start the descent from Lenin’s house, if experienced, then go higher.

From Lenin’s house to the middle of the slope to go 1-2 hours. Here a steeper slope and a large amount of snow begin. From here we begin our downhill skiing/snowboarding. The maximum slope is 40-50%. Riders are rare here, so you can leave your unique line. The route is well suited for medium and higher level of riding.

P.S. The gorge is also one of the most popular winter trek. There are 2 variations of descents. The first is on the slopes along the main path to the mount Furmanov – closes top of the Kim-Asar circus. Another option is the descent from a house which is located on the northern slopes of the gorge.
