We need copy of your passports for the pass of permit in border area. The term of registration is 4 weeks.

Jungar Alatau is a mountain system and the main ridge in south-eastern Kazakhstan. It stretches from the west to east almost for 400 kms. The name was suggested in 1856 by the well-known scientist and traveller and public figure P.P.Semenov. Local residents have had another name for this mountainous territory together with adjoining to it nothern plains – Zhetysu (Seven River). Glaciers, precipitation and groundwater feed many rivers flowing down from the nothern slopes of lakes Balkhash, Sasykkol and Alakol. The Semenov Tien Shanskiy peak is highest mount of Jungar Alatau.

Programme

Day 1. Transfer Almaty-Sarkand (5-6 hrs, 420 km). National Park office (1 h). Off-road transfer to Jongar Alatau mountains (1 h). Trekking to the yurt along Small Baskan gorge.

Distance 6,5 km; 2-2,5 hrs. Difference in height +255 m / -965 m (1.360-1.615 m).

Day 2. Bridge – old house of Military – Kumbasay river – Three springs.

Distance 12 km; 6,5 hrs. Difference in height +725 m (1.615-2.340 m).

Day 3. Archa river – Kurgakkol lake – moraine of Zhambyl glacier.

Distance 12,5 km; 7 hrs. Difference in height +980 m (2.340-3.320 m).

Day 4. Zhambyl glacier.

Distance 4 km; 4 hrs. Difference in height +600 m (3.320-3.920 m).

Day 5. Climbing to the Semenov Tien Shanskiy peak. Return to the camp.

Distance 6 km; 10 hrs. Difference in height +700 m / -700 m (3.920-4.622-3.920 m).

Day 6. Reserve day.

Day 7. Zhambyl glacier – Kumbasay river.

Distance 20,5 km; 8-9 hrs. Difference in height -1.960 m (3.920-1.960 m).

Day 8. Small Baskan gorge – Forest house. Off-road transer to Sarkand city (1 h). Transfer to Almaty (5-6 hrs).

Distance 13,5 km; 4-5 hrs. Difference in height -600 m (1.960-1.360 m).

Day 9 (by your request). Excursion-hiking to Zhasylkol lake.
