Jongar Alatau mountains is an excellent place for a multi-day horse trekking in Almaty region. Lakes are located at an altitude 1640 m (lower) and 2262 m (upper), of morain origin, steep banks, the water in the lakes is very cold. Those lakes from melted snow, was formed in nature long ago as a result of enormous glacier gathering and remains completely undamaged by the hand of man in beautiful, untouched environs.

Programme

Day 1. Transfer Almaty-Sarkand (5-6 hrs, 420 km). National Park office (1 h). Off-road transfer to Jongar Alatau mountains (2 hrs). Camping.

Day 2. Horse trekking. Karbushka river – Jylsay gorge.

Distance 23-25 km; 6-7 hrs. Difference in height +1450 m (1040-2500 m).

Day 3. Horse trekking. Panoramic view of upper lake – Sorokonojka pass – Agynykatty river.

Distance 15 km; 4-5 hrs. Difference in height +100 m / -700 m (2500-2640-1950-2000 m).

Day 4. Hiking. Jasylkol upper lake. Back to the camp.

Distance 8 km; 4 hrs. Difference in height +/-300 m (2000-2280-2000 m).

Day 5. Horse trekking. Sorokonojka pass – Jylsai gorge – Aktas plateau.

Distance 20 km; 5-6 hrs. Difference in height +700 m / -400 m (2000-1950-2640-2350 m).

Day 6. Jasylkol lower lake.

Distance 12 km; 3-4 hrs. Difference in height -700 m (2350-1640 m).

Day 7. Agynykatty river – Jalanash ranger house.

Distance 15 km; 4-5 hrs. Difference in height -750 m / +150 (1640-1130-1260-1040 m).

Day 8. Transfer to Almaty (8 hrs).
